Her research activity is mainly dedicated to the structural and thermal characterization of polymeric formulates and nanocomposites as well as the polymer degradation phenomena during processing and in service use. In particular, her scientific interest has been centred on molecular analysis of macromolecules by advances mass spectrometry techniques (MALDI-TOF, ESI-MS, SEC/MALDI); molar masses determination by viscometry, 1H-NMR, SEC and SEC/MALDI; characterization and quantification of stabilizers, flame retardants, additives, by-products and degradation products; thermal analysis by hyphenated MS techniques (DP-MS, Py-GCMS and TGA-MS); studies of degradation mechanisms (pyrolysis, thermo and photo-oxidation) and stabilization in engineering polymeric materials.
Sabrina Carola Carroccio received her Master Degree in Industrial Chemistry (110/110 cum laude) and her Ph.D. degree from the University of Catania in 1997 and 2002, respectively. From 2001 to July 2016, she worked at the Institute of Polymers, Composites and Biomaterials (IPCB-CNR Catania Unit). In August 2016 she moved to IMM-CNR, Catania (University). She was scientific responsible of several research agreements CNR-enterprises, responsible for research tasks in national scientific projects, as well as an active participant in international projects. Since 2016 she has been a member of the board of the Italian Macromolecular Science and Technology Association (AIM). She has held 5 invited presentations at schools and workshops on polymer characterization. She has written 2 books chapters on invitation upon polymer degradation by using modern MS methods. She has authored 39 peer reviewed international papers, 5 book chapters and more than 60 contributions to national and international meetings. To date, Sabrina Carola Carroccio has received 771 citations, which yield an H-index of 18.
