Silvia Romano was born in Telese Terme (Benevento-Italy) on September 1986. She had got the diploma of piano on July 2011 and she graduated cum laude in Physics at "Federico II" University of Naples on December 2011, working with Prof. Domenico Ninno and Dr. Ettore Massera on the " Study and characterization of films based on graphene in a controlled environment: electronic properties and interactions with molecules for use as gas sensor".

She obtained (with honors) her PhD in Novel Technologies for materials, sensors and imaging at the University of Naples “Federico II” under the supervision of Dr. Vito Mocella. During her PhD, she completed a theoretical and experimental study on resonant states in photonic crystals, focusing the attention on the field enhancement achievable in absorption-free media and avoiding the typical limitation of metallic plasmonic structure. In the same period she has started to work as Post-doctoral fellow.
