This article reviews the contributions which can be made to the study of crystalline materials by the use of convergent beam electron diffraction and large angle convergent beam electron diffraction. The topics covered include lattice parameter determination, crystal point group and space group determination, sample thickness determination, the solution of unknown crystal structures, the evaluation of quantum well and strained layer superlattice structures and dislocation Burgers vector determination.
