Description:
In this paper we present an analytical model for the evaluation of the electromagnetic (EM) scattering from a typical composite target of urban areas in a generic bistatic configuration. The considered scene comprises a canonical building modeled as a parallelepiped lying over a rough terrain. Closed-form expressions for the scattered EM field are derived under the framework of the Kirchhoff approximation, with subsequent Geometrical Optics and Physical Optics approximations adopted for evaluating scattering from building walls and ground, respectively. Single- and multiple-scattering contributions are properly modeled as well as the EM and geometric characteristics of both the composite target and the sensors, such as material composition, size, terrain roughness, building orientation, viewing angle, polarization, frequency. The proposed scattering model can be used in information retrieval procedures using …
