Description:
This work is aimed to address complementary and vertically integrated multidisciplinary goals of conceiving, studying and implementing advanced configurations of Lab on Fiber to provide valuable technological platforms for the next generation of MOEMS devices. This new intriguing vision, in fact, differently form the approach envisaged at MIT [1], integrating fiber optic technology with advanced fabrication and processing micro and nanotechnologies would allow a large set of unique and unconventional functionalities to be implemented for novel photonic, thermal, mechanical, acoustic, chemical and biological devices, components and systems. The key point for the implementation of this new technology can be indentified in the creation of an interdisciplinary research team with competencies ranging from optoelectronics to material science, and nanotechnology. The idea is the study and development of a new technological world completely included in a single optical fiber where different materials are connected and interact to provide a wide range of functionalities for specific applications. This approach could have the potentiality to open new research frontiers in a number of key areas such as identification of new materials, the improvement of materials and interfaces quality, new fiber-device architectures and the increase of device density through the reduction of feature sizes.
