The novelty of the research is in the exploitation of SiO2 NWs as support for TiO2 film for the creation of a performing photocatalytic material. The morphological and optical properties of this composite material are the key benefits for water treatment applications and allow to overcome the main limits presented by the most reported nano-photocatalysts. Eventually, the fabrication methodology is based on the well-established Si technology making ultimately up-scalable to industrial production the proposed strategy.
The research has been carried out in collaboration with the Catania Unit.
