Description:
The superconductivity of alkali doped fullerides A3C60 [1] has been one of the major breakthroughs in fullerene science. All the theories of superconductivity developed for these highly correlated systems (Migdal-Eliasberg extension of standard BCS, as well as its nonadiabatic approximation [2]) indicate an exponential increase of Tc with the increase of the density of state at the Fermi level D (EF) and of the e---ph coupling strength. Both these factors would be significantly enhanced in a hypothetical “hole” superconductor which could maintain a cubic symmetry, where the carriers occupy the 5-fold degenerate hg HOMO-derived band (the t1u LUMO involved in conventional alkali doped fullerides is only 3-fold degenerate), and where the presence of adiabatic channels would be increased.This interesting scenario, however, has been precluded for a long time, due to the difficulties encountered to produce a charge …
