The recent progress in the growth, characterisation and understanding of the physical properties of graphene has paved the way to the study of other twodimensional (2D) materials, for example, hexagonal boron nitride, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD), phosphorene and the so-called van der Waals heterostructures of these different materials [1–6].
