A significant enhancement of ferromagnetism above room temperature in epitaxial 2D van der Waals ferromagnet Fe5−δGeTe2 (FGT) is observed when interfaced with the Bi2Te3 topological insulator. The heterostructures have been fabricated by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) at the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” in Athens within the H2020 project Skytop.

Our contribution by conducting ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) was to reveal a strong enhancement of damping parameter for FGT/Bi2Te3 when compared to FGT, demonstrating the suitability of such heterostructure to exploit spin-charge conversion effects in spintronic devices based on 2D ferromagnets and 3D topological insulators.

The results have been published on Nanoscale, where the paper is available open access.
