The research activity is focused on the study of morphological, structural and chemical properties of materials and devices by scanning and transmission electron microscopy techniques, on the nano-manipulation and nano-fabrication of materials and devices by focused ion beam techniques.
The research areas and fields of activity involve: materials and devices for micro- and nanoelectronics, materials and devices for sensors and energy applications.
Know-how and expertise are related to i) sample preparation for trasmission electron microscopy, by conventional methods and by Focused Ion Beam lamella preparation methods; morphological, structural and chemical characterization by transmission electron microscopy tecniques (coherent and incoherent high resolution imaging by TEM/STEM techniques, electron diffraction techniques, analytical techniques like Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS), Energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), elemental mapping); use of Focused Ion Beam techniques for the manipulation of materials and devices at the nanoscale (nanopatterning, electron and ion beam induced deposition, nanocontacting, nanometer scale milling).
