Giuliana Impellizzeri conducts experimental research focused on materials science. She has experience in atomic layer deposition (ALD), molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), ion implantation, and photocatalytic, structural and electrical properties of semiconductor-based materials. Her research is mainly focused on nanostructured photocatalytic semiconductors (principally TiO2 and ZnO) for application in wastewater treatment. She is also expert in electrical activation and diffusion of dopants in crystalline Si and Ge, and their interaction with point defects and impurities for microelectronics.
Giuliana Impellizzeri has a permanent position as Researcher at the IMM-CNR since 2004. She obtained the Master Degree in Physics (110/110 cum laude) from the University of Catania in 2000. She worked as "Device Engineer" at STMicroelectronics for 20 months. She attained the Ph.D. in Physics (cum laude) from the University of Catania in 2004. She is author of more than 150 papers in international refereed journals. She is Editor of 12 Special Issues of Materials Science in Semiconductor Processing (Elsevier), and 1 volume of Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B (Elsevier). She is author of 1 book chapter, editor of 1 book, author of one national and 1 international patent. She gave numerous oral contributions to international conferences, and she held 10 invited presentations. She organized several conferences, including three symposia at the E-MRS Spring Meeting (Lille, May 2015; Strasbourg, May 2017; Nice, May 2019), the IEEE Nanotechnology Materials and Device Conference (Aci Castello, October 2014) and the NanoSEA conference (Giardini Naxos, July 2016) as Chair of the Organizing Committee. She participated to many national and international projects with the role of work package leader and unit coordinator. She is head of the WATER laboratory, an infrastructure with, among other equipment, an ALD and a CVD for carbon-based materials. She has the licence for Full Professor in Italy. She is Member of the Board of the IMM of the CNR. On April 2016 she was awarded by the President of the CNR (Prof. Luigi Nicolais) with the prize “Marcello Sgarlata” for the excellence of her research. She is a project evaluator for the European Commission and for the Italian Minister of Education. She is Editor of Materials Science in Semiconductor Processing journal IF=2.722 (Elsevier), and Associated Editor of Frontiers in Chemistry, Catalysis and Photocatalysis IF=3.994 (Frontiers).
