Vibrational spectroscopy; Spectral imaging for Bioanalytics and Diagnostics; Biosensing; Nanostructured devices
Master Degree in Quantum Optics at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and Ph.D. in physics in 2003 at the University Roma Tre. In the following years, she directed the research activity aimed at the development of biosensors and nanostructured devices for biomedical applications at NANOMED laboratories, at the Department of Physics of the University of Genova, where she also conducted teaching activities at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy (Physics for Cultural Heritage) and Medicine. Since November 2012, she is a research scientist at the National Research Council, CNR, in the Area of Roma Tor Vergata (first in the Institute of Complex Systems, ISC, then, from 2017, in the Institute of Microelectronics and Microsystems, IMM) where she works on the use of vibrational micro-spectroscopy for bioanalytical and diagnostic applications. She is the author of numerous articles published in international journals (http://publicationslist.org/vale_nena) and of two patents relating to nanoscale biosensors for nanomedicine applications. In October 2010, she contributed to the foundation of the spin-off of the University of Genova "Nanomed Srl", and in 2013 she obtained the National Scientific Qualification for Associate Professor. Since 2013, she coordinates the CNR inter-departmental Virtual Laboratory Tech4Bio (www.tech4bio.eu), which includes several Institutes (IMM, IFN, IFT, ISM) and brings together skills and facilities in the field of Life Science: biosensors, biochemistry, microscopy, spectroscopy, advanced microfluidic devices and lab-on-chip development for bioanalytics and diagnostics, micro and nano-scale characterization, design and study of new smart biomaterials. From July 2014 to September 2017 she was responsible for the Supporting Organizational Unit of the Institute of Complex Systems of CNR in the Rome Research Area of Tor Vergata, UOS ISC RM2. She is an expert evaluator for H2020-FETOPEN-2016-2017-RIA, for the Italian Ministry for Economic Development and for the Ministry of University and Research. She is a member of the organizing committee of the "Biophysics@Rome" (www.biophysicsatrome.org) periodical conference, and since 2015 she is member of the European COST Action Raman4Clinics (www.cost.eu/COST_Actions/bmbs/BM1401).
